Hojojutsu #2

One of the traditions included within Masaki-ryu Nakajima-ha is Edo Machikata Jutte Torinawa Atsukaiyo, a form of juttejutsu (pronged iron truncheon) that also transmits hojojutsu (arresting cord).

Hojojutsu is broadly divided into Haya-nawa and hon-nawa. Haya-nawa is a quick, temporary method used when restraining
an opponent, while hon-nawa is a formal tying method when a suspect is brought to the feudal courthouse. While ties are used in hon-nawa, they are not in haya-nawa, and the restrained person is not treated as a criminal (so is not "tied" in haya-nawa) unless judged so by a judge.

Ties and hojojutsu are an important part of Japanese culture, and are trained and transmitted within Masaki-ryu Nakajima-ha.

捕縄術とは大きく区別すると、早縄と本縄とあります。早縄は相手を捕り押さえるときに使われる仮のもので、
本縄は奉行所で裁判されるときに使われる正式な 施縄法です。本縄では結び目を作る縛り方が使われますが、早縄では、
取り押さえられた者が奉行所で裁判を受けるまでは犯罪者として扱われないため、結び目 が使われないのです。

結びおよび捕縄術は日本の大切な文化の一つで、正木流中島派がその術儀を稽古・伝承しています。
